Q1: Are there any free services for window inspection?

Q2: Is it compulsory to fix all windows so as to complete the statutory notice released by Building Department (BD)?

Ans:
Many companies try to convince you to fix all windows with an “economic price” in order to attract more owners to purchase their poor goods and services. So, the owner needs to think before you act.

The assessment / risks class for window inspection C&J adopted:

  • If the damaged window member does not cause immediate danger, the owner can decide whether to carry out the prescribed repair. If the owner decides not to carry out the work, C&J also will submit the specified form to Building Department. Those forms C&J delivered to BD will send a copy to the clients.

  • If part of the windows is rated as Class II, the owner can decide whether to carry out the prescribed repair. If the owner decides not to carry out the work, C&J also will submit the specified form to Building Department.

    If part of the windows is rated as Class III, you have to appoint a contractor to carry out the prescribed repair. If you appoint C&J to carry out the work, C&J will submit the specified form (including but not limited to MWI-1, 2, 2a, 3 or 4 and MW03, 04, 05) without any extra fees.

    If the prescribed repair is required and carried out by C&J, C&J will C&J will submit the specified form (including but not limited to MWI-1, 2, 2a, 3 or 4 and MW03, 04, 05) without any extra fees until the statutory notice is completed.

    1) The Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme (MBIS) and Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme (MWIS) were fully implemented in June 2012. Statistics on the progress of implementation of MBIS and MWIS as at 31 December 2013 are tabulated below:

    2) In 2014, the Buildings Department (BD) plans to newly select 1000 buildings for implementation of MBIS and MWIS concurrently. Taking into account backlog cases and buildings to be newly selected, in 2014 BD plans to issue statutory notices to about 1800 and 3300 target buildings for implementation of MBIS and MWIS respectively (i.e. 1800 buildings for implementation of MBIS and MWIS concurrently, and another 1500 buildings for implementation of MWIS only). The estimated numbers of statutory notices to be issued in 2014 under MBIS and MWIS are 21000 and 175000 respectively.
